A Webflow SEO checklist for a new site build covers planning your URL structure and heading hierarchy before you design, setting titles, meta descriptions and canonical tags on every page, adding schema markup, optimising images and speed, and setting up the sitemap, robots.txt and Google Search Console at launch. Doing this during the build is far cheaper than fixing it after the site is live.

‍

The Webflow SEO checklist

‍

1. Plan the structure before you design

Decide your page list and URL structure first. Keep URLs short, lowercase and descriptive, and group related pages under clear folders such as /services or /guides. Map one main topic to each page so pages do not compete with each other.

‍

2. Build a clean heading hierarchy

Use one H1 per page that states what the page is about, then H2s for main sections and H3s for subsections. Choose heading tags for structure, not for how big the text looks: style the class, not the tag.

‍

3. Set titles and meta descriptions on every page

Give each page a unique title and meta description in the page settings. Lead with the main topic, keep titles to roughly 60 characters, and write descriptions that read as a clear summary a person would want to click. On CMS pages, bind these to fields so every item gets its own.

‍

4. Set canonical and indexing controls

Make sure each page has a canonical URL, and only noindex pages that should not appear in search, such as thank-you pages or utility pages. Check that no staging noindex settings are left on at launch.

‍

5. Add schema markup

Add JSON-LD schema that matches the visible content: Organization and Person for your business, Service for what you offer, Article for guides, FAQPage where questions and answers appear on the page, and BreadcrumbList for site structure. Validate it before launch.

‍

6. Write for answers, not just keywords

Open key pages with a direct, self-contained answer, then add detail below. Add a short FAQ where people genuinely ask questions. This is the foundation of answer engine optimisation (AEO) and helps search engines and AI assistants quote your content.

‍

7. Optimise images and page speed

Use compressed WebP or AVIF images at the size they are displayed, add descriptive alt text, lazy-load images below the fold and avoid heavy scripts and animations that are not needed. Webflow hosting is fast, so most speed problems come from oversized media and third-party scripts.

‍

8. Build sensible internal linking

Link related pages to each other with descriptive anchor text, add breadcrumbs, and make sure every page is reachable from the main navigation or a link from another page.

‍

9. Set up the sitemap and robots.txt

Turn on the automatic sitemap in the site's SEO settings and confirm it lists only the pages you want indexed. Check that robots.txt does not block the site or important resources.

‍

10. Connect Google Search Console and launch

Verify the domain in Google Search Console, submit the sitemap, and use the URL inspection tool on key pages after launch. Set up 301 redirects if you are replacing an existing site. Cynitek. builds sitewide SEO into every Webflow project from the start rather than adding it afterwards.

‍

Should SEO be done before or after the Webflow build?

During. URL structure, heading hierarchy, metadata and schema are far easier to get right while pages are being built than to retrofit once the site is live.

‍

Is Webflow good for SEO?

Yes. Webflow gives you control over titles, meta descriptions, canonical tags, redirects, sitemaps and clean code. It does not do the SEO for you, so the result depends on how the site is planned and built.

‍

What should I check right after launch?

Confirm the sitemap is submitted in Google Search Console, no pages are accidentally set to noindex, redirects resolve to working pages, and your key pages are indexed.
