To add schema markup in Webflow, write the JSON-LD for the page, paste it inside a script tag of type application/ld+json in the page's custom code (or in an embed), publish, then test it in Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator. For CMS pages, use the template's custom code and insert CMS fields so each item gets its own values.
How to add schema markup to Webflow
Step 1: Decide which schema each page needs
Match the type to what is visibly on the page. Common choices are Organization on your homepage, Service on service pages, Article and BreadcrumbList on guides and blog posts, and FAQPage where the page really has questions and answers. Schema must reflect visible content, and it helps machines understand a page but does not guarantee any result. For the background, see what schema markup does for AI search.
Step 2: Write the JSON-LD
JSON-LD is a block of structured data that states who you are and what the page is. Use the fields from schema.org and keep names, URLs and descriptions identical to what visitors see.
Step 3: Add it to a static page
Open the page's settings in Webflow, go to the custom code section for the head, paste the JSON-LD inside a script tag with type application/ld+json, save and publish. You can also place the same script in an embed element on the page.
Step 4: Add it to a CMS template
On a CMS template page, add the script to the template's custom code and use the Add Field option to insert CMS fields, such as the item name, slug and description, in the right places. Every item that uses the template then gets its own correct values. Do not copy and paste one item's values into the template, or every page will describe the same thing.
Step 5: Test it
Publish, then run the live page through Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator. Fix any errors, and check that the values match the visible page. In Google Search Console, the enhancement reports will flag structured data problems over time.
Common mistakes
- Schema that does not match the visible page.
- Pasting one page's schema across the whole site.
- Broken JSON, such as a missing comma or unescaped quote, usually when CMS text contains quotation marks.
- Marking up content that is not on the page.
- Expecting rich results to appear straight away or to be guaranteed.

Do I need a plugin to add schema in Webflow?
No. Webflow supports custom code on pages and templates, so you can add JSON-LD directly without any plugin.
Which schema types should a small business use first?
Start with Organization or LocalBusiness on the homepage, Service on service pages, and Article, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList on guides. Only mark up what is actually on the page.
Does schema markup improve rankings?
Not directly. It helps search engines and AI assistants understand your content and can make pages eligible for rich results, but it does not guarantee higher rankings.
