To set up 301 redirects in Webflow, go to Site settings, then Publishing, then 301 redirects. Add each old path and the new path it should point to, save, and publish the site. Redirect every old URL to the most relevant new page, avoid chains, and keep the redirects in place long term.

‍

How to set up 301 redirects in Webflow

‍

Step 1: List every old URL

Before you change or launch anything, make a list of the URLs on the old site. Use a crawl of the old site, your XML sitemap, and the pages that get clicks in Google Search Console, so you do not miss the ones that matter. If you are moving from another platform, this list is the heart of the job, as covered in migrating to Webflow without losing rankings.

‍

Step 2: Match each to the most relevant new page

Map each old address to the new page that covers the same topic. Do not send everything to the homepage, because search engines may treat that as a soft error and visitors will not find what they came for. If a page has no equivalent, point it to the closest related page.

‍

Step 3: Add the redirects in Webflow

Open Site settings, go to Publishing and find the 301 redirects section. Enter the old path, such as /old-page, and the new path, such as /new-page. Add them one by one or in bulk, then save. Webflow also supports wildcard redirects for patterns of URLs, which is useful when a whole section has moved.

‍

Step 4: Publish and test

Redirects take effect when you publish the site. Then test several old addresses in a browser, and check that each lands on the right page in one step.

‍

Step 5: Check Search Console

After launch, watch the page indexing report in Google Search Console for new 404 errors and fix any gaps you find. Submit your updated sitemap and keep monitoring clicks.

‍

Common mistakes

  • Redirect chains, where A goes to B then C. Point each old URL straight to the final page.
  • Redirecting everything to the homepage.
  • Using temporary 302 redirects when the move is permanent.
  • Removing redirects after a few weeks. Keep them long term, and update internal links so they point straight to the new addresses.
  • Changing a page address later without adding a redirect, including CMS item slugs.

‍

For the other settings to check at build time, use the Webflow SEO checklist. If you want a migration handled for you, request a technical audit.

‍

What is a 301 redirect?

It is a permanent redirect that tells browsers and search engines a page has moved for good, so visitors and ranking signals are sent to the new address.

‍

How long should I keep redirects?

Keep them long term. Search engines and other sites may keep using the old addresses for a long time, so removing them early can lose traffic.

‍

Do redirects hurt my SEO?

Correct one-step redirects to relevant pages are the safe way to move a site. Problems come from chains, mismatched targets and missing redirects.
